Both Dallas and Columbus moved within two points of Detroit for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Detroit picked up a point Friday in a shootout loss to Chicago.

Alex Chiasson had a goal in both the second and third periods for the Stars, whose bid to make the playoffs began to heat up after they traded away some of their top offensive players.

Nashville lost its fifth in a row with Chris Mason giving up all five goals on 18 shots.
