MLB: New York Yankees 5, Baltimore 2

NEW YORK, April 12 (UPI) -- A fly ball by Vernon Wells was misplayed into a three-run error by Baltimore's Adam Jones Friday, giving the New York Yankees a 5-2 win over the Orioles.

The game was tied at 2-2 when the Yankees loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batsman with two outs in the seventh.

Pedro Stroup relieved Troy Patton and he appeared to have gotten out of the inning when Wells hit a ball in the air to center. Jones, however, could not come up with the catch and Francisco Cervelli, Kevin Youkilis and Travis Hafner all scored.

CC Sabathia (2-1) benefited from the error to get the win, allowing two runs on eight hits over eight innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

It was New York's fourth straight victory.

Miguel Gonzalez (1-1) was charged with the loss in a six-inning effort, having put the winning run on base in the seventh before giving way to Stroup, and Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his second save.
