NHL: Colorado 4, Anaheim 1

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 11 (UPI) -- Jean-Sebastien Giguerre allowed only a second-period goal and made 23 saves Wednesday to bring Colorado a surprising 4-1 win over Anaheim.

The Avalanche, owners of the worst record in the NHL, ended a five-game losing streak by defeating a team battling for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

John Mitchell scored for Colorado 64 seconds into the game and the Avalanche took control with a three-goal second period.

Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Jamie McGinn all scored against Jonas Hiller, driving him from the contest after he had allowed four goals on 16 shots.

Teemu Selanne produced Anaheim's only goal on a tip-in with 8:44 to go in the second period.

The Ducks, who had won their previous two games, remained five points behind Chicago for the best record in the West.
