Rain disrupts Clay Court Championship

HOUSTON, April 10 (UPI) -- Persistent rains wiped out the entire schedule of second-round matches Wednesday at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

Four of the eight second-round confrontations had been scheduled, but only one got under way and it was halted by the rains with Paolo Lorenzi holding a 3-2 lead over Flavio Cipolla in the first set.

Among those having to wait until Thursday to play their second-round match was No. 1 seed Nicolas Almagro, who was scheduled to meet Gael Monfils.

John Isner, last year's runner up, also had his meeting with Jack Sock postponed for 24 hours.

Although the second round was pushed back by the rain, two matches were completed early in the day that completed the first round.

Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo defeated Somdev Devvarman in one of those 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 and Martin Alund ousted Lleyton Hewitt 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
