MLB: New York Mets 7, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, April 8 (UPI) -- John Buck smashed a three-run homer and Matt Harvey tossed seven strong innings Monday, lifting the New York Mets over Philadelphia 7-2.

Buck's blast in the second inning off struggling Phillies starter Roy Halladay gave the Mets a 3-0 lead and set the tone for the game.

Ruben Tejada added a pair of RBI while David Wright went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single for the Mets, who improved to 5-2 to start the season and took the opener of a three-game series.

Harvey (2-0) followed up a seven-inning, one-hit performance in his previous start with another solid effort, limiting the Phillies to one run on three hits while striking out nine and walking two.

Phillies ace Halladay (0-2), meanwhile, was hit hard in his second straight outing, yielding seven runs on six hit over four full frames.

Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each drove in a run for the Phils, who fell to 2-5.
