GLENDALE, Ariz., April 3 (UPI) -- Keith Yandle scored a pair of goals Tuesday to lead the Phoenix Coyotes past the visiting Los Angeles Kings 3-1.
Matthew Lombardi scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, and Jason LaBarbera shut down the Stanley Cup champions with 39 saves.
The win provided a welcome pair of points for the Coyotes, who were 1-5-3 in their previous nine games and ended the night two points away from the eighth playoff position in the Western Conference.
Justin Williams scored the only goal for the Kings, who ended their road trip with a 3-1-1 mark. Jonathan Quick allowed all three goals on 30 shots.
After the first period ended in a 1-1 tie, Lombardi scored on a backhander at 11:05 of the second frame to give the Coyotes the lead for good. Yandle added an insurance goal with a one-timer late in the third period.
