NHL: New York Islanders 5, Winnipeg 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 2 (UPI) -- Frans Nielsen notched the go-ahead goal late in the second period and the New York Islanders continued their playoff push with a 5-2 win over Winnipeg Tuesday.

Nielsen's one-timer from the right circle on a power play got past Ondrej Pavelec and broke a 2-2 tie, putting the Islanders on the path to their fifth win in six games.

John Tavares and Matt Moulson contributed a goal and an assist each as New York moved into a tie with New Jersey for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Rookie Anders Lee found the net in his NHL debut and Colin McDonald also scored in the win.

Kevin Poulin turned aside 23 shots for the Islanders.

Paul Postma scored twice and Pavelec made 34 saves for Southeast Division-leading Winnipeg.
