World Cup ticket-line brawls in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, March 30 (UPI) -- Police in Brazil said they used tear gas to break up fights among soccer fans lined up to buy tickets for the first match in the new World Cup stadium.

No one was arrested but the trouble Friday was another headache for the $330 million Arena Fonte Nova project, which the BBC said was over budget.

The scuffles pointed out the need for crowd barriers in the ticket lines to keep crowds orderly, witnesses told the BBC. Contractors said Friday they would address any issues that came to light Friday.

The network said other venues being built for the 2014 soccer tournament were behind schedule as well.
