MIAMI, March 29 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins signed former San Diego Charger Vaughn Martin after he canceled, at the last minute, a trip to Seattle.

Martin, 26, said he had boarded a plane in South Florida that was bound for Seattle, the next destination on a cross-country tour to explore his free-agency options, when his agent called to say the Dolphins had made a good offer and he should get off the plane, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

"I'm a defensive lineman," Martin said, speaking about his role with the Dolphins. "You have to be interchangeable. My goal is to help the team win. This is exciting."

Martin recorded 19 tackles and a sack while starting 12 games last season.
