NHL: Calgary 4, Colorado 3

CALGARY, Alberta, March 28 (UPI) -- Mike Cammalleri scored twice in the second period to give Calgary a two-goal lead Wednesday and the Flames held on to defeat Colorado 4-3.

Cammalleri tallied on a pair of slap shots that eluded Semyon Varlamov, the second of them coming with 7:19 to go in the middle period.

That boosted the Flames in front 4-2 and the Avalanche gave themselves a chance when Ryan O'Reilly scored on the power play with 7:26 left in regulation.

Joey MacDonald then slammed the door on Colorado and brought the Flames their 13th win of the season. Only three NHL teams have less, Colorado being one of them.

MacDonald made 27 saves in the victory. Calgary got off to a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Jiri Hudler and Steve Begin.
