MANILA, March 27 (UPI) -- A former U.S. college star won't return to the Philippine Basketball Association if convicted of charges he faces, the league's commissioner said Wednesday.
PBA Commissioner Chito Salud said Jamelle Cornley had "zero chance" of playing in the league again if he is found guilty of assaulting a police officer, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Cornley, 25, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly punched a police officer at a Quezon City hotel after the former Penn State player reportedly damaged computers and other property after complaining three women had stolen about $1,500 from him.
The charges also include malicious mischief and resisting arrest.
The injured officer, Armando Lazatin, was photographed wearing a neck brace and being placed in an ambulance, The Philippine Star reported.
If the charges are proven, Salud said, "I see Mr. Cornley as having zero chance of playing in the PBA again, at least under my watch."
Cornley, who was named Penn State co-MVP in both 2007 and 2008, led his team, Rain or Shine, to its first PBA championship last year.
He stayed in the country to recuperate after having surgery for injuries received in the final series of games for the Governors' Cup title.
