New York won for the fourth time in six games with John Travers producing a power-play goal midway through the second period. It was his 17th of the season and it was the only score of the game until Brad Boyes delivered an empty-netter with 40 seconds remaining.

Anders Lindback was the hard-luck loser, stopping 28 shots in what was Tampa Bay's eighth loss in 10 games.

Prior to the contest the Lightning announced they had placed forward Vincent Lecavalier on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
