NEW YORK, March 6 (UPI) -- An athletic director's email suggests a culture of hazing persisted for years at a New York City school, after three students were arrested in an incident.

The email was written by a year ago by Marion Dietrich, track coach at the elite Bronx High School of Science, to 10 coaches and administrators, including principal Valerie Reidy, mentioning an earlier forced touching incident in the school track team's locker room and a recommendation that coaches monitor the locker room, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

An anonymous coach told the newspaper the monitoring practiced stopped during the current school year because coaches did not want to spend their time on it, and Reidy refused to hire an aide to do it.

Three male members of the track team were arrested Feb. 27 and charged with bullying a 15-year-old male freshman at the school, the criminal complaint saying the victim was sodomized and threatened. Dietrich and two other coaches Aisha Bruce and Cesar Garcia, have been suspended since, the newspaper said.
