UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 3 (UPI) -- John Tavares scored the decisive goal in a shootout Sunday, boosting the New York Islanders over Ottawa 3-2.
Frans Nielsen also found the net in the tiebreaker while Evgeni Nabokov made stops on Jakob Silfverberg and Daniel Alfredsson as the Islanders broke a three-game skid.

Michael Grabner and Brad Boyes each scored in regulation and Nabokov turned aside 29-of-31 shots in New York's triumph.
Ottawa's Patrick Wiercioch scored on a power play with 1:09 left in the third period to force extra time.
Mika Zibanejad also tallied and Robin Lehner made 33 saves for the Senators, who dropped a third consecutive contest.
