NHL: Los Angeles 2, Detroit 1

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Anze Kopitar scored with 3:48 left Wednesday and Jonathan Bernier did not allow a goal over the last 50 minutes to bring Los Angeles a 2-1 win over Detroit.

The Kings have won five games in a row, matching the total they achieved during their opening 13 outings of the season.

Detroit scored midway through the first period on Kyle Quincey's slap shot, but that was all they managed against Bernier. The backup Los Angeles goaltender stopped 32 shots.

Jeff Carter's 11th goal of the campaign, coming on the power play with 9:34 left in the third, created a tie game. Kopitar produced the game-winner on a wrist shot, beating Jimmy Howard.

Howard made 27 saves in what was the Red Wings' first loss in three games.
