UNIONDALE, N.Y., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Lubomir Visnovsky, who was suspended when he refused to report to his NHL team after the lockout ended, has been reinstated by the New York Islanders.
Visnovsky reported to the team about a month after the NHL lockout ended and he passed a physical Thursday. That led the Islanders to reinstate him and say he could play as soon as Saturday.
Visnovsky was acquired by the Islanders from the Anaheim last June but was playing with Slovan Bratislava in the Kontinental Hockey League during the NHL lockout.
Visnovsky stated a desire to remain with Slovan Bratislava after the lockout ended but the KHL had an agreement with the NHL to return players under contract immediately. Visnovsky initially refused and was suspended by the Islanders.
Visnovsky had 18 goals and a career-high 68 points for Anaheim last season. He has 117 goals and 450 points in 771 NHL games over 11 seasons.
