NHL: Nashville 2, Los Angeles 1 (SO)

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Sergei Kostitsyn finally ended a marathon shootout in the eighth round Thursday to give Nashville a 2-1 triumph over Los Angeles.

The Predators won for just the second time this season, ending a three-game skid. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings had captured two in a row.

There were seven goals scored in the shootout in 16 shots with both sides producing two goals over the first three rounds. The Kings' Anze Kopitar and Nashville's Gabriel Bourque both scored in the sixth round.

After Simon Gagne missed his attempt in the eighth round, Kostitsyn put the puck past Jonathan Quick to win it.

The only goals in regulation came in the first period. Brandon Yip scored for Nashville just 58 seconds into the game and Dustin Brown tallied on the power play to tie it with 6:52 to go in the stanza.

Quick faced just 13 shots in the first hour of hockey, only five more than he saw in the shootout. Pekka Rinne got the win with 23 saves.
