NHL: Ottawa 3, Florida 1

SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Craig Anderson allowed only a first-period goal and stopped 25 shots Thursday in carrying Ottawa to a 3-1 triumph over Florida.

Anderson has faced the Panthers 10 times and has won nine of those games. The only goal he allowed came on the power play from Tomas Fleischmann 8:24 into the game.

The Senators tied it on a slap shot from Chris Phillips on the power play with 8:35 left in the first period and Erik Karlsson put Ottawa in front midway through the second.

Anderson protected the one-goal lead until Jason Spezza recorded an empty-net goal with 1:16 remaining..

Ottawa has begun a season with three straight wins for the first time in six years. The Senators have outscored the opposition 11-2 in those three games

Florida won its first outing of the campaign, but has lost three times since. One of those losses was a 4-0 setback at Ottawa last Monday.
