RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Mathieu Garon turned aside 35-of-36 shots Tuesday and the Tampa Bay Lightning dominated Carolina 4-1 in the Hurricanes' home opener.
Tom Pyatt and Cory Conacher got the Lightning off to a fast start with first-period goals while Ryan Malone and Keith Aulie also scored for the winners.
The Lightning used two assists from Vincent Lecavalier in improving to 2-1-0 to start the lockout-shortened season.
Jeff Skinner supplied Carolina's only goal and Cam Ward coughed up four scores on 26 shots.
