Kovalev signs with Panthers for one year

SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Thirty-nine-year-old forward Alexei "Alex" Kovalev joined his fifth NHL team Friday, the Florida Panthers.

The team announced that Kovalev got a one-year contract, returning to the NHL after playing in the Kontinental Hockey League for a season.

Kovalev has also played for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators.

He has 428 goals and 596 assissts in more than 1,300 games in the NHL.
