NBA: Cleveland 99, Atlanta 83

CLEVELAND, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Kyrie Irving scored 18 of 33 points in a big third quarter Wednesday, launching Cleveland to a 99-83 triumph over Atlanta.

The Cavaliers won for the second time in seven games and handed the Hawks their fourth straight setback.

Cleveland limited Atlanta to 12 points in the second period and grabbed a nine-point advantage at the break. The Hawks quickly cut their deficit to one in the third period, then wilted while Irving was hitting 11-of-15 from the field and converting five 3-point shots.

Alonzo Gee also made five 3-pointers to score 15 points for the Cavs. Tyler Zeller added 11 points and 12 rebounds and Tristan Thompson had 11 points and 14 boards.

Atlanta was led by Josh Smith with 17 points, eight rebounds, six blocks and four assists.
