Pierzynski meets with Rangers manager

DALLAS, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels confirmed he met with A.J. Pierzynski, a catcher for the Chicago White Sox the past eight years.

Daniels confirmed he talked to Pierzynski Tuesday amid reports the team is considering the player for a dual role as catcher and designated hitter after losing Josh Hamilton to the Los Angeles Angels, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Pierzynski, who set a career high last season with 27 home runs, would share catching duties with former Cub Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto, who re-signed with the Rangers for a $2.75 million one-year deal.

Pierzynski, 35, is a career .284 hitter with 155 home runs, 730 runs batted in and 1,645 hits. The two-time all-star previously played for San Francisco and Minnesota.
