NFL: Carolina 31, San Diego 7

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Cam Newton hurled two touchdowns passes and DeAngelo Williams turned in an all-around game Sunday in Carolina's 31-7 rout of San Diego.

Newton gained 231 yards on 19-of-33 passing efficiency. Williams rushed for 93 yards and 22 carries and also hauled in one of Newton's scoring strikes as the Panthers (5-9) corralled their third win in four contests.

Steve Smith led Carolina's receivers with a TD on six catches for 57 yards and the Panthers' defense forced four fumbles by Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers, sacking him five times.

Rivers managed to complete 16-of-23 passes for only 121 yards for San Diego (5-9).
