VAL D'ISERE, France, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The women's World Cup super-G in France was canceled Saturday due to bad weather on the slopes.
The race director for the International Skiing Federation, Alte Skardal, said in a written statement the pre-dawn weather at Val d'Isere was a mess and not suitable for the high-speed event.

"The only way to get the course ready was to use Snowcats," Skardal said. "This would have lasted between 3 and 4 hours and could only be possible if [the] temperature had kept going down a bit to have a harder snow, which wasn't the case."
In addition to the fluky precipitation and temperatures was an expected change in wind direction and chance that snow would fall in the afternoon.
