BOSTON, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox and free-agent catcher-first baseman Mike Napoli have agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal, sources told The Boston Globe.

The Seattle Mariners and Napoli's 2011 team, the Texas Rangers, were pursuing him as well, the Globe reported Monday.
