Ex-Buc Jerramy Stevens arrested in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested in Florida Wednesday for a probation violation, state authorities said.

Stevens, husband of U.S. soccer goalie Hope Solo, was detained by the Florida Department of Corrections and jailed in Tampa Wednesday for violating the terms of his probation for a 2010 marijuana case, USA Today reported.

Ann Howard, director of communications at the Corrections Department, said Stevens was picked up because of a Nov. 13 domestic violence arrest in Kirkland, Wash., involving Solo -- to whom he was married that day.

A Washington judge released Stevens without charges due to lack of evidence in that incident, but Howard said the arrest triggered a warrant for him in Florida.

"I believe this is improper," Stevens' attorney, Mark O'Brien, told the newspaper. "A judge in Washington -- after he had a full hearing in which the state of Washington called witnesses, including a law enforcement official -- found no probable cause.

"In this particular case, he should not be held without bond -- he shouldn't even have his probation violated."
