MLS: D.C. United at New York, ppd., snow

HARRISON, N.J., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The scheduled second leg of the D.C. United-New York MLS conference semifinal series was postponed Wednesday due to persistent snow.

MLS officials waited an hour after the scheduled 8 p.m. EST starting time before announcing the game had been moved to Thursday. Kickoff time was set for 7:30 p.m.

Snow began falling shortly after noon and was still coming down when the postponement was announced.

"We just could not get ahead of the snow," said Nelson Rodriguez, the league's executive vice president for competition. "As soon as we got some of it removed it started stacking up again."

It was the second time the original schedule for the series had been altered. New York was to have hosted the first game of the two-match, aggregate-score series, but the opening contest was moved to Washington because of the damage done to the New York area last week by Hurricane Sandy.

That game ended in a 1-1 tie, so the winner of the second game will move on to the Eastern Conference finals. Houston and Kansas City completed the other conference semifinal series late Thursday.
