Hightail upsets BC Juvenile Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Hightail snuck through along the rail in the final yards to win Friday's $500,000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint by a nose.

Hightail, a 15-1 longshot seeking his first win, bumped with pacesetting favorite Merit Man as they neared the wire, and then prevailed by a narrow margin. A stewards' inquiry ensued but the result was allowed to stand.

Merit Man jumped out to the early lead and took the field of five starters along briskly into the stretch. He appeared to have the race in hand until Hightail, with Rajiv Maragh, found room on the inside in the late going.

Hightail, a Mineshaft colt trained by D. Wayne Lukas, ran the 6 furlongs on a fast track in 1:09.75. He previously had only one second and two thirds to show for eight career starts.
