Arvidsson takes out Bartoli in Moscow

MOSCOW, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Marion Bartoli took a tumble Wednesday at the Kremlin Cup Wednesday, falling in an upset to Swedish veteran Sofia Arvidsson.

Arvidsson had little trouble against the Frenchwoman, routing her 6-3, 6-0 to move on to the quarterfinals at Moscow's Olympic Stadium.

Meanwhile, two other seeded players fared better in their second-round matches, including No. 5 seed and defending champion Dominika Cibulkova, who breezed past Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-3.

Third-seeded former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki also triumphed on Day 3, easily handling Poland's Urszula Radwanska 6-1, 6-3.

Wozniacki and Cibulkova will square off in Friday's quarterfinals.

Falling victim to an upset Wednesday was eighth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova, who bowed to countrywoman Klara Zakopalova 6-4, 6-4.

Logging opening-round victories on Day 3 were seventh-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko and her compatriot, qualifier Valeria Solovieva.
