MLS: Chicago 2, New York 0

HARRISON, N.J., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Sherjill MacDonald scored both Chicago goals Saturday and the Fire moved closer to securing a playoff berth with a 2-0 victory over New York.

McDonald broke a scoreless deadlock in the 65th minute when Chris Rolfe found him behind the Red Bulls defense and he launched a shot into the net at the far post.

The Chicago striker doubled the advantage in the 78th minute, speeding past the Red Bull defenders after getting a pass from Daniel Paladini and directing a shot past goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Chicago (17-10-6) broke a two-game losing streak and forged a second place tie with D.C. United for second place in the Eastern Conference with 57 points.
