MLB: Toronto 4, Baltimore 0

BALTIMORE, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Aaron Laffey and five Toronto relievers combined for a six-hit shutout Tuesday, staking the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-0 whitewash of Baltimore.

Laffey (4-6) scattered five hits and didn't issue a walk for the Blue Jays, who took a 2-1 lead in their four-game series with the Orioles.

Steve Delabar, Brett Cecil and Brandon Lyon teamed up for 1 1/3 scoreless relief frames while Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen finished up with one inning each to complete the shutout.

Colby Rasmus, Edwin Encarnacion, Yan Gomes and Adeiny Hechavarria each supplied RBI in the victory.

Baltimore starter Joe Saunders (2-3) was touched for four runs (three earned) on 11 hits over 6 1/3 frames.

The second-place O's came into the contest 1 1/2 games behind the American League East-leading New York Yankees but held a 3 1/2-game cushion for an AL wild card spot.
