Wozniacki wins Korea Open over Kanepi

SEOUL, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki dropped just one game Sunday in winning the Korea Open tennis championship title match over No. 3-seeded Kaia Kanepi.

Wozniacki won more than two-thirds of the points in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Kanepi in 62 minutes. It was her 19th WTA title, which is fourth most among active tour players.

She won the first four games of the match before Kanepi was able to hold serve and get on the board. Wozniacki lost just seven points overall in the second set and nine points on serve on the day.

It was her first championship since August 2011, when she won at New Haven, Conn. She is 19-11 in WTA championship matches. The $112,300 first-place check pushed Wozniacki's career winnings to more than $12.8 million.

The Korea Open marked an impressive return for Kanepi, who had withdrawn from 10 tournaments since the French Open due to an Achilles tendon injury. She is 3-4 in tournament title matches, but 2-1 in 2012 having won previously in Brisbane, Australia, and Estoril, Portugal. She took home $57,665 as the Korea Open runner-up.
