SINGAPORE, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Lewis Hamilton put McLaren on the pole for the Singapore Grand Prix by finishing a fraction of a second ahead of Pastor Maldonado in Saturday's qualifying.
Hamilton took his third Formula One pole in four tries with a time of 1 minute, 46.362 seconds.

Maldonado, driving for Williams, finished the 3.152-mile tour in 1:46.804 and will start in the front row for the second time this season.
Sebastian Vettel -- the two-time defending F1 champion -- took the No. 3 position. Vettel won the 61-lap Singapore race last year.
"It's a good position to start from," said Vettel. "It's a long race tomorrow, and a lot of things can happen."
