Lexi Thompson leads on LPGA Tour

PRATTVILLE, Ala., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Lexi Thompson shot the lowest round of her professional career Thursday to take a two-shot lead after one round of the Navistar LPGA Classic.

Thompson became the youngest player in LPGA Tour history to win an event when she captured this tournament a year ago at the age of 16. That record has since been broken by 15-year-old amateur Lydia Ko, who won the Canadian Women's Open last month.

After recording birdies on four of the first six holes, Thompson fired a 9-under 63 over the Senator Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. She equaled the course record to lead Hee Young Park and Lizette Salas, both of whom turned in a 65.

Stacy Lewis shot a 66 and shared fourth place with Karen Stupples, Mi Hyang Lee, Wendy Ward and Amanda Blumenherst.
