NHL cancels Sept. pre-season games

NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- There will be no National Hockey League exhibition games in September due to the team owners' lockout of players, the league announced Wednesday.

Also canceled was the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville pre-season game, which had been set for Oct. 3 in Belleville, Ontario.

The 2012 pre-season had been set to begin Sunday.

The regular season's opening date of Oct. 11 has become endangered as the NHL Players' Association and team owners have failed to agree on a new collective bargaining agreement, producing the NHL's third work stoppage in less than 20 years.
