BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Tomas Berdych dispatched Carlos Berlocq in the first reverse singles match Sunday, handing the Czech Republic a Davis Cup semifinal win over Argentina.
Berdych racked up his third victory of the weekend with his 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Berlocq as the Czechs rolled up an insurmountable 3-1 advantage at Buenos Aires.
Berdych had earlier delivered a singles victory over Juan Monaco in Friday's opener, then put his country ahead 2-1 while teaming with Radek Stepanek in a doubles triumph.
The victory put the Czechs into the Davis Cup finals against Spain, which advanced over the United States Sunday.
Defending champ Spain defeated the Czech Republic in the 2009 finals.
Argentina was playing without Juan Martin del Potro, who was out with a wrist injury. He had defeated Stepanek in a Friday singles match.
