MLB: Cincinnati 4, Pittsburgh 3 (14 inn.)

CINCINNATI, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Ryan Ludwick's single sent home Devin Mesoraco with the game-winning run in the 14th inning Monday, handing Cincinnati a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.

Mesoraco singled against Rick VandenHurk (0-1) to lead off the 14th and advanced when catcher Michael McKenry picked up Brandon Phillips' nubber at the plate and threw to second too late for the out.

Two batters later, Ludwick hit a grounder into the hole. Shortstop Jordy Mercer made a diving stop but bobbled the ball on the transfer, allowing Mesoraco to cross home and end the marathon.

Alfredo Simon (3-2) earned the win after wiggling out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the top of the 14th.

Chris Heisey homered and Dioner Navarro drove in two runs for the National League Central-leading Reds.

Andrew McCutchen went deep for the fading Pirates, who fell for the eighth time in 10 games.
