MLS: Colorado 3, Portland 0

COMMERCE CITY, Colo., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Andre Akpan and Tony Cascio both scored in the opening 30 minutes Wednesday, sending Colorado to a 3-0 win over Portland.

The teams entered the game with the two worst records in the Western Conference, but Colorado moved out of the cellar past both Portland and Chivas USA into seventh place. The Rapids are still eight points out of a playoff position.

Portland fell to 0-10-3 on the road and is 7-14-6 overall.

Jaime Castrillon scored Colorado's third goal in the second half, boosting the Rapids to 9-17-2.
