ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Angels said Thursday Jered Weaver will miss his scheduled start against Detroit this weekend due to tendinitis in his pitching arm.

Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto said magnetic resonance imaging revealed the tendinitis is in Weaver's right bicep, and is not directly related his taking a line drive off the right shoulder Sunday in a game with Seattle, MLB.com reported.

Dipoto said the Angels' ace is expected to be back in the rotation after sitting out the game against the Tigers.

Weaver left the team in Oakland Wednesday -- three days after being hit by a Dustin Ackley comebacker in Seattle -- and returned to Los Angeles for treatment and evaluation. He left the Mariners' game an inning after getting hit with the line drive after having made 86 pitches.

Ervin Santana will start for the Angels Friday against the Tigers' Max Scherzer. C.J. Wilson will start Saturday against Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke will start Sunday against Anibal Sanchez.
