MLB: New York Mets 5, Miami 1

MIAMI, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Jason Bay belted a grand slam and Chris Young delivered five efficient innings Sunday in the New York Mets' 5-1 series-sweeping win over Miami.

Ronny Cedeno and Justin Turner led off the top of the first inning with back-to-back doubles against Mark Buehrle (12-12) and David Wright grounded out to give New York a quick 1-0 lead.

After Scott Hairston popped out, Ike Davis drew a walk and Buerhle hit Kelly Shoppach with a pitch to load the bases.

That brought up Bay, who sliced a 1-0 pitch into the right-field stands for a grand slam, and the Mets went on to complete a three-game series sweep.

Young (4-7) yielded one run on five hits over five innings, walking one and striking out three. Four Mets relievers combined to shut out the Marlins the rest of the way.

Buehrle ended up allowing five runs on six hits over a seven-inning effort.

Justin Ruggiano knocked in the only run for Miami.
