MLS: Seattle 6, Chivas USA 2

CARSON, Calif., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Fredy Montero scored a hat trick, his first in MLS play, and the Seattle Sounders moved up in the Western Conference with a 6-2 rout of Chivas USA.

Montero's goals gave him 11 for the year and six in the last four matches.

Brad Evans and Samuel Ochoa also scored and Mauro Rosales had three assists for the Sounders (12-6-7), who won for the fourth time in five matches.

The victory pulled them into a second-place tie with Real Salt Lake in the West. Seattle has two games in hand over RSL.

Juan Agudelo and Miller Bolanos scored for Chivas (7-10-6), which dropped a second straight and remained 10 points behind Vancouver for the West's fifth and final playoff.
