Blake bests O'Meara in Boeing playoff

SNOQUALMIE, Wash., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Jay Don Blake drained a birdie on the second playoff hole Sunday, edging Mark O'Meara for the Boeing Classic title.

Both Blake and O'Meara parred the 18th on the first extra hole, but Blake notched a birdie the second time around to record his third career Champions Tour triumph.

Both turned in rounds of 4-under 68 in the final round, finishing tied at 10-under 206, then waited to see if Willie Wood could bag an eagle on the final hole to join them in the playoff.

But Wood -- who won last week's Dick's Sporting Goods Open -- settled for a birdie at the end, claiming sole possession of third place at minus-9 with a round of 2-under 70.

Sharing fourth place one shot further back were defending champ Mark Calcavecchia (70) and Michael Allen (67).

A bid by second-round leader Tom Jenkins to become the oldest winner in Champions Tour history fell apart Sunday. The 64-year-old struggled to a 6-over 78 and tied for 21st place at minus-3.
