MLB: San Diego 4, Pittsburgh 2

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Andrew Werner allowed four hits over six innings in his major league debut Wednesday and earned the victory the San Diego Padres' 4-2 decision over Pittsburgh.

Werner was staked to a three-run lead in the first inning and held on for the milestone victory that extended the Padres' winning streak to four.

He had made only four starts at the Class AAA level, with a 5.79 ERA, before being called up.

Carlos Quentin doubled home two runs in the first inning and Mark Kotsay added a sacrifice fly. Quentin also had an RBI single in the fifth to give the Padres a 4-1 lead.

All of the San Diego runs came off James McDonald (11-6), who allowed five hits with five walks in five innings.

The Pirates have lost three straight.
