WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Dwayne De Rosario missed a second penalty kick in the 89th minute Sunday, preserving the Philadelphia Union's 1-1 draw with D.C. United.
De Rosario scored on the first kick attempt, but it was waved off after encroachment was called, triggering a fight during which United midfielder Branko Boskovic was issued a red card.
De Rosario's second kick went over the goal and the Union (7-12-3) escaped with the tie, ending a two-game skid.
Philadelphia gave away a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute when a free kick by United's Branko Boskovic deflected off Union midfielder Amobi Okugo for an own-goal.
Brian Carroll scored in the 8th minute for Philadelphia.
D.C. (11-8-4) used the draw to take sole possession of fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
