MLB: Seattle 5, Minnesota 1

SEATTLE, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Blake Beavan and three relievers combined to hold Minnesota to one run Sunday and the Seattle Mariners completed a series sweep with a 5-1 win over the Twins.

Beavan (8-7) surrendered a second-inning run and then blanked Minnesota over the next 3 1/3 frames, allowing seven hits while walking one and striking out three.

Carter Capps and Oliver Perez teamed up for 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Josh Kinney collected his first major league save with 2 1/3 hitless frames to finish up.

Michael Saunders belted a two-run homer in the seventh to put Seattle ahead 4-1 and Eric Thames (3-for-4) added an RBI double.

Samuel Deduno (4-1) handed out six walks and allowed five hits over six innings, absorbing the loss.

Trevor Plouffe drove in the only run for the Twins, who were swept by the Mariners for the first time in 11 years.
