Rookie shares lead on LPGA Tour

NORTH PLAINS, Ore., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Rookie Sydnee Michaels shot the lowest round of her LPGA Tour career Friday and found herself tied for the lead at the Safeway Classic.

Michaels fired a 7-under 65 at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club to share the top spot after one round with Mika Miyazato.

This is the 11th tournament of the year for Michaels and she has missed the cut in five of her previous 10 events.

Inbee Park, Cristie Kerr and Pornanong Phatlum shared third place at 66 while those at 67 included Brittany Lincicome, So Yeon Ryu, Amy Hung and Jee Young Lee.

Michelle Wie, mired in a yearlong slump, was tied for 13th after shooting a 69.
