VH1 drops Chad Johnson reality show

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The VH1 television network announced Monday it has canceled a reality show starring football wide receiver Chad Johnson and wife Evelyn Lozada.

The broadcaster issued a statement on its Web site referencing "unfortunate events over the weekend" involving Johnson and Lozada in its decision to drop its upcoming show "Ev and Ocho."

Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was cut by the Miami Dolphins Sunday after a weekend arrest in Florida on domestic violence charges.

The receiver -- a six-time Pro Bowl selection -- was arrested Saturday after Lozada complained to police Johnson "head-butted" her during an argument, causing a deep laceration on her forehead.

Johnson was granted $2,500 bail Sunday after spending the night in the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, and later in the day was cut by the team.

The receiver was ordered by a judge to stay away from his wife, The Miami Herald reported.

Due to the "seriousness of the allegations," the VH1 statement said, it was "pulling the series 'Ev and Ocho' from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it."

Lozada is a star of another VH1 reality show, "Basketball Wives," the Los Angeles Times reported.
