MLB: San Diego 9, Pittsburgh 8

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Chase Headley's two homers Friday sparked San Diego's comeback from a 7-1 deficit and helped lift the Padres a 9-8 victory over Pittsburgh.

Headley's three-run blast capped a six-run San Diego fifth inning that produced a 7-7 tie.

The Pirates re-established a one-run lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Rod Barajas. But in the next half-inning, Everth Cabrera drew a two-out walk from Tony Watson (5-2) and Headley then lofted a pitch into the left field stands for the decisive blow.

Alexi Amarista chipped in a solo shot and two RBI, and Jesus Guzman added a key two-run double as San Diego won the opener of a three-game series.

Brad Brach (1-2) collected the victory and Huston Street racked up his 21st save, but limped off the field after final play with a strained calf muscle.

Travis Snider smacked a three-run homer and Garrett Jones added a solo shot for the Pirates, who fell one game behind Atlanta in the National League wild card chase.
