Kashirina had to settle for the silver medal and Hripsime Khurshudyan of Armenia won her country's first medal of these Games with a bronze. Armenia won six medals in Beijing.

China collected nine Olympic gold medals in weightlifting four years ago. This event was the last weightlifting competition for women at the London Games.
