LONDON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Destinee Hooker won a dozen points with her spikes Friday, sending the United States coasting to an Olympic volleyball win over Serbia.
The Americans won in three sets and clinched first place in Group B with one game left in the round-robin portion of the tournament. That means Team USA will face the fourth-place team from Group A in the quarterfinals next week.
The United States won by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 while improving to 4-0. The Americans are looking for their first gold medal in the women's version of the sport after finishing second to Brazil in 2008.
China, South Korea, Brazil and Turkey are all 2-2 heading into the final Group B games Sunday. One of those teams will miss the quarterfinals.
Italy and Russia both stayed unbeaten in Group A and will determine the winner of that group when they meet Sunday. Italy won in three sets over Algeria Friday and the Russians needed four sets to dispose of Japan.
